Idea #736 – Visiting Mindelo, Cesaria Evora’s town, in Cabo Verde
Mindelo is the main city of the island of São Vicente, in the archipelago of Cape Verde. The mind of Mindelo, which describes a quasi-perfect circle, is part of the “Club des plus belles baies du monde”. It’s actually a former caldera partially damaged. From the seventeenth century, the Dutch navies came and went to relax. But the rest remains as well as almost inhabited because the island of São Vicente does not offer very few resources and serves only parking space for the cattle.
It failed to attend the installation, in 1838, of a carbon depot by the English of the East India Company allowing vaporizers to refuel, so that the present town of Mindelo actually developed. Celebrity for its music and its musicians, Mindelo is the natural city of the celebrity singer Cesária Évora, who visited the Royal Café, still visible, well restored. Allez, we are going to take a glass on a Saudade air.
