Idea #432 – Climbing the 1264 meters high Mount Massi in Guinea
Peaking in 1 264 meters, the mount Maci appears as an immense tabular plateau, dominating the surrounding villages. The mount is visible in kilometers surroundings, especially in clear weather. In its foot, a cave populated with bats and with hornets was of use as place of meeting to the local tribes, which settled the subjects of dissension there, until an earthquake causes the collapse. Always interesting to know that, in this region affected till the end of 2016 by the Ebola virus, three species of frugivorous bats are suspected by the researchers of being reservoirs of the virus …
The accesses of the mount are occupied by huge rocks. Some, worked by the erosion, seem moreover suspended between heaven and earth, balancing only by the magic. The fertile imaginations will see certainly multiple and strange characters there, like “petrified giants”. The ascent of the mount can then continue by a long circuit which by-passes him and climbs him slowly, or more directly in the slope by a maze of rocks and tall grass, with some delicate passages, but which decrease strikingly the time of ascent. Once “feet on the table”, the view is incredible, in 360° on the surrounding valley.
