Idea #306 – Visiting the historical city of Trinidad in Cuba
Trinidad was founded in 1514 by the Spanish conquistador Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, and lived for a long time on the industry in the sugar cane and on the slave trade. A big period of isolation, from 1850 till 1950, offered the city a perfect conservation of its buildings and its colonial architecture. .
The city center, restored minutely, is considered as being the most beautiful of the island. The paved streets and the houses in colors pastel kept all their charm and contribute to give the impression that time stopped since the colonial period. The buildings which confine Plaza Mayor testify of the wealth of the owners of the former times. The city is registered on the UNESCO world heritage since 1988. Let’s go, mojito and flip-flops, we are arriving !
