Idea #69 – Visiting the Emirate of Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, literally “father of the gazelle“, is the capital of the emirate of Abu Dhabi and of the United Arab Emirates. Although we find tracks of civilization several millenniums BC, the site was inhabited permanently only from the XVIIIth century. But it is in the XXth century when the city really knew an important growth, largely thanks to the income of the oil. Originally confined on an island in the shape of “T” which advances in the Persian Gulf, this one is connected with the dry land by three bridges : the Bridge of Sheik Zayed, the Bridge of Maqta and the Bridge of Musaffah. In the city center raise a large number of skyscrappers, as well as other buildings, older, of more modest size.
The highest tower of the city, the Domain Tower, reaches 374 meters and count 88 floors. It is associated with two other skyscrappers : Market Commercial Tower exchange and Market Hotel Tower exchange, of a respective height of 280 and 254 meters, within the Exchange Market Project. Besides center commercial and offices, Abu Dhabi contains several buildings or notable places, among which the most known is the Emirates Palace, self-proclaimed hotel seven stars, and the Ledge, the big path paved by ceramic, facing the sea.
