Idea #827 – Watching the wildlife of Costa Rica’s forests on a night walk
Costa Rica has several types of tropical forests, whether dry or humid. While it is easy to observe certain species in broad daylight, some even seeking human proximity, such as monkeys, many other species are only visible when walking at night: frogs, tarantulas and tarantulas, snakes but also ocelots, kinkajous, or gray foxes. These walks are unpredictable, each nighttime visit is unique: in the dark, all the senses are awakened, each noise is an alert, the adrenaline rush is guaranteed!
In Costa Rica, it is possible to do night walks almost everywhere in the country. Our favorite destination, however, remains the Monteverde Rainforest. Nicknamed the “Cloud Forest”, this place is one of the most popular with tourists and observers. Here are the legendary quetzal, sloths, scorpions, snakes, tarantulas, bats, marsupials like opossums, and unusual animals like leaf-cutter ants. Magnificent birds can also be observed during a night walk, in their closed sleeping position. Come on, let’s put on army pants, take a torch, and let’s go!
