Idea #703 – Visiting the island of Flores in Guatemala
Flores is the capital of the Petén department in northern Guatemala. It is due to its proximity to Tikal to become a mandatory passage during a trip to Guatemala. The old town is located on an island of Lake Petén Itzá. Flores was built on the site of the Mayan city of Tayasal, of which nothing remains. It is connected to the mainland by a bridge 500 meters long, which gives access to the city of San Elena, modern and without any interest. Discover the island zigzagging through its cobbled streets, adorned with the mosaic of colors of the facades of its houses, then walk along the seaside; you can then enjoy the lake, lancha or swimsuit !
