Idea #640 – Visiting Leonardo’s birthplace in Vinci in Tuscany
Vinci is a municipality in the metropolitan city of Florence in Tuscany, on the slopes of Montalbano, in the heart of the Chianti vineyards. She is known for having had the honor of seeing the birth of the famous genius Leonardo da Vinci. The castle of Conti Guidi, also called castello della nave, is visible in the center of the city; it dates from the 11th-12th centuries, and has housed the Leonardiano di Vinci museum since 1953. The Biblioteca Leonardiana, founded in 1883, holds a unique collection of manuscripts, drawings and plans made by Leonardo.
But let’s not be fooled; the master’s birthplace is further on, 3 km from Vinci, in the village of Anchiano. He was born there on April 15, 1452. If the presumed birthplace has since been entirely rebuilt and presents in a summary exhibition the different aspects of Leonardo’s artistic personality, it has the merit of allowing us to immerse ourselves in the atmosphere and the panorama that the genius knew during his childhood. Andiamo !!
