Idea #539 – Testing the SandBoarding on the namibian dunes
The sandboard or the Dune Board is a sliding sport ,allowing by means of a board of dune to tumble down a slope of sand. Been similar in the snowboard, it is based on the same principles but on the sand. This activity is very wide-spread in the United States, in South America (Argentina, Brazil, Peru and Chile), in Australia and even in Japan. The world competition takes place every year at the end of June, the beginning of July to Hirschau in Germany on the Mount Kaolino.
Some brands make sandboard, but even old snowboard or bodyboard or still downright board of skateboard, can be use. The foot bindings of the sandboard are almost the same that that of a snowboard; there are however foam special bindings which allow to practise the sandboard barefoot. After a few minutes of training, you will be capable of tumbling down a dune, more or less good and more or less fast!
