Idea #493 – Visiting the most beautiful traditionnal Armenian village in Dilijan
Dilidjan is a city of Armenia, situated in the marz of Tavush, indicated under the name of “Armenian Switzerland”. The city is considered as the conservation of the traditional housing environment and as its mineral water.
In the old part of the village, in height, both main streets are lined with old stone houses, with wooden roofs. Houses possess galleries and remarkable decorated wooden balconies, in a country where the vernacular architecture is more or less non-existent. In the XIXth century, the village of Dilijan had known how to seduce the Russian nobility of Tbilisi, which came to breathe of the pure air there and to taste the enjoyments of the thermal baths.
