Idea #473 – Visiting the Viking ships museum of Roskilde
The Viking ships Museum of Roskilde presents the history of the navigation and the Scandinavian maritime culture from the Antiquity to the beginning of the Middle Ages.
The museum exposes five ships Vikings deliberately poured around 1070 into the fjord of Roskilde and found in 1962. It is about various types of ships, about the transportation of goods in the warship. The archaeologists called them Skuldelev 1, Skuldelev 2, Skuldelev 3, Skuldelev 5 and Skuldelev 6. The museum was built in 1969 and specially designed to present these discoveries. It also leads scientific researches in the field of the maritime archaeology for the period of the age of the Vikings.
Nearby, a shipyard reproduces and experiments the construction, according to the former modes, of longships and Danish traditional boats.
