Idea #464 – Observing the remains of the mining city of El Triunfo in the Sierra of Laguna in Mexico
El Triunfo is a small isolated hamlet which is situated in the Sierra of Laguna, a range of dry mountains was situated in the peninsula of Baja California in Mexico. The village knew a real development at the end of the XIXth century, when a French company comes to settle down there to exploit gold mines and silver. More than 2000 inhabitants lived in the new city, mixing the labor populations local, French, English and even Chinese, the historic cemeteries of which remain.
Today, the mining activity has been achieved. There are no more than 400 inhabitants, two high chimneys there – the biggest of them is 47 meters high, and would have been designed by Gustave Eiffel – and buildings and symbols of the prosperity of formerly, which always continue. By making a detour to Todos Santos, you can visit the famous Hotel California, topic of the Eagles’ song.
