Idea #439 – Climbing the Gangan Mount in Guinea
The Southwest point of the Guinea, inside the continent, which benefits from a longer rainy season, is a region of woody, said mountains forest Guinea; it is there that is the peak of Guinea, the Mount Nimba (1 752 m), neighbor of Liberia. The coastal plain of bass-Guinea is dominated in the East by the massif of Benna (1 214 m), the mount Kakoulima (1 011 m) and the mount Gangan (1 117 m).
The mount Gangan consists of a big stony plateau. The low parts of the mount consists of a raised savanna, while the high slopes have low forests. The Mount Gangan is lined with rocky steep slopes, and with small swamps. From 650 meters, the vegetation counts a low bush and small trees and shrubs, a maximum from 5 to 6 meters in height.
From 700 meters, the big trees are more represented, but their size decreases beyond 900 meters in height. From 1000 meters, the rocky paving stones begin to be very present, covered by more or less dense herbaceous carpets. In the summit, in 1117 meters, the view kisses the horizon, with the city of Kindia, and a big military camp.
